The choices you see below are just a sample of what pens and other turnings can be made out of. Check out the pen section or the turnings section to get an idea of of what other woods and materials can be used.

Oak   Here are two examples of oak. It generally has a goldish color to it, and sometimes can have a red tint.

Walnut   Walnut, is one of my favorite woods to work with. It generally has rich dark texture and looks great when a finish is applied. Also during the wood working process it adds nice aroma.

Leopard Wood   Leopard Wood, also know as Australian Lace Wood has a unique grain pattern. Sections of it have a leopard pattern, while other sections have a lacy, almost flame like appearance.

Maple   Maple is another nice wood to work with. Depending on the piece it can some time have an almost 3d appearance. Curly maple, or birds eye maple can be known for this.

Green Tips

Instead of washing your car in the street or taking it to a car wash, wash it on your lawn using biodegradable soaps. You'll get a clean car and water part of your lawn at the same time.
